Pick Right

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 16, 2026

Pick Right helps you choose better produce, developed and operated by Lavanya Kusnoor. This policy explains what information the app handles. The short version: no accounts, no tracking, no ads. The core produce guide runs entirely on your device — no internet connection needed. Two optional features — the camera Scan and the in-app Chat — send only what you actively submit to Google for processing, as described below.

Data We Collect

Pick Right has no user accounts, no registration, and no sign-in, and we never ask for your name, email, or any identifying detail. We do not build a profile of you. The only information that ever leaves your device is what you actively submit to the optional AI features, and an anonymous per-device usage counter — both explained below.

Camera

The optional Scan feature uses your device camera so you can photograph produce for a freshness assessment. The camera is accessed only while you are actively using Scan, and only the photo you choose to analyze is used. Pick Right does not access your photo library, record video, or use the camera in the background. If you never use Scan, camera permission is never requested. The core produce guide works without it.

AI Features — Chat and Scan

Pick Right offers two optional AI features: an in-app Chat that answers produce questions, and Scan, which assesses produce from a photo. When you use them, the text you type or the image you capture is sent — through our own server, never with API keys exposed inside the app — to Google's Vertex AI (Gemini) for processing, and the result is returned to you. This input is used only to generate your answer. We do not store your chat messages or scanned images on our servers, and they are not linked to your identity. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. If you do not use Chat or Scan, nothing is transmitted.

Anonymous Usage Identifier

To keep the free AI features sustainable and prevent abuse, Pick Right applies a daily usage limit per device. To count usage, the app generates a random, anonymous identifier — not your device's hardware ID, not an advertising ID, and not any personal detail — and stores a per-day call count against it in Google Firebase Firestore. This identifier cannot be used to contact or identify you, is not combined with any other data, and exists solely to enforce the daily limit. The count resets daily.

On-Device Storage

The app stores a small amount of data locally on your device: a flag remembering that you accepted this policy, your selected shopping region, and the anonymous usage identifier described above. This data is not linked to your identity. To clear the local data, simply uninstall the app.

Device Permissions

Pick Right requests camera access only for the optional Scan feature, and only at the moment you use it (see Camera above). The app does not request access to your photo library, location, contacts, microphone, or any other device sensors. The core guide works with no permissions at all.

Analytics and Tracking

Pick Right uses no analytics, no crash-reporting, no advertising SDKs, and no cross-app or behavioral tracking. We do not profile you and we do not sell data. The only data that leaves your device is the AI input you actively submit and the anonymous per-device usage counter described above — neither is used for advertising or tracking.

Third-Party Services

Pick Right is built with Expo (expo.dev), a React Native framework; production builds include no Expo data-collection services. The optional AI features rely on Google services — Google Vertex AI (Gemini) to process Chat and Scan input, and Google Firebase Firestore for the anonymous usage limit. Your use of those features is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. No advertising networks or other third-party data processors are integrated into Pick Right.

Children's Privacy

Pick Right does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). The app has no accounts and collects no identifying information from any user. The optional Chat and Scan features transmit only what a user actively submits; parents should be aware that text or photos a child submits to these features are processed by Google as described above.

Your Rights — GDPR (European Users)

Pick Right collects no personal data that identifies you under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); the anonymous usage identifier cannot identify you. Because we hold no identifying data, there is nothing personal to access, correct, port, or erase. Input you submit to the AI features is processed by Google as a sub-processor under Google's terms; you can stop all transmission at any time by not using those features. For questions about your rights, contact us below.

Your Rights — CCPA (California Users)

Pick Right does not sell or share personal information — we collect none to sell. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected about them; the answer is none that identifies you. The optional AI features transmit only the input you submit, to Google for processing — never for sale or advertising.

Your Rights — DPDPA (Indian Users)

Pick Right is mindful of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA). The app collects no personal data that identifies you, and the anonymous usage counter is not personal data, so the obligations of a Data Fiduciary over identifiable personal data do not apply. Input you submit to the AI features is processed by Google as described above. If this changes in a future version, this policy will be updated accordingly.

Data Deletion

Pick Right stores no identifying data on our servers, so there is no personal account to delete. All local app data is removed when you uninstall the app. The anonymous usage counter in Firestore is not linked to you and resets daily; it cannot be tied back to your identity. To stop all data transmission, simply do not use the Chat or Scan features.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Governing Law

This privacy policy is governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising in connection with this policy shall be subject to the jurisdiction of courts in India.
